Public authorities are required to respond to requests as soon as possible. Clear and appropriate procedures are in place for situations where the authority to which a request is directed does not have the requested information. There are clear and reasonable maximum timelines with clear limits on timeline extensions.
The legislations of the analysed countries are similar and are mostly in line with relevant international standards. The laws of Kosovo and Montenegro set out an urgent deadline in cases where the life or freedom of a person are contingent on access to requested information. The laws of BiH and North Macedonia, while prescribing precise timelines, do not promote prompt responses to the requests.
